Each night (Mon-Thurs), students will bring home a book (at their reading level) from school.  This book must be read to an older sibling, a parent/guardian, or some other adult.  The title of the book should then be filled out on the reading log, and signed by the person that the child read to.

Every Monday (or first day of the school week), I will send home a homework packet.  This packet will contain different skills that we are working on in the classroom.  The packet will be due each Friday morning (or last day of the school week).

Each week, your child will receive a list of word wall words that they will be responsible for knowing.  We will do many activities with the words in class, but they will still need to study the words at home.  At the end of the week, we will take a test over these word wall words, plus any additional words that can be made with the spelling patterns of the word wall words.  (Complete first grade list.)

Students need to practice their math facts each night.  I encourage you to quiz your child by asking them different math facts whenever you have a moment.  I know that time is in short supply, but even asking a few problems a day in the car will make a huge difference.
